jan 1, 1770 - Spinning Jenny

Description:

Created in 1770, James Hargreaves patented the Spinning Jenny which contained multiple spindles. This allowed unskilled workers to produce eight to eighty items at a time, allowing factories to mass-produce clothing without having to waste costs employing and teaching people This invention was vital for the cotton industries to keep up with ‘the great age of steam’, creating larger scale, labour-intensive factory systems. Without this invention, many small factories had to specialise in different products. This invention not only aided in the workflow but inspired other minds like Richard Arkwright to invent machines that improved the process of the textile industry. These inventions include; water frame and the drawing frame.
