Christopher Columbus was a Spanish explorer during the late 15th century. He tried very hard to convince King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain to commission his voyage. He wanted to find better trade-routes to India which would avoid the on-the-rise Ottomans, and thought he could get there by going through the Atlantic. Instead of hitting India, he hit the Carribean, and accidentally launched the age of exploration. He would colonize the island of Hispaniola for Spain, before dying on his last voyage.AP Key Concept 1.2, I
