Worked with the NOI to promote the African heritage and was a powerful and influential leader. He had considerable influence in promoting a sense of pride and identity among African Americans that didn’t depend on integration or accepting white values. Malcolm X influenced black power considerably. He himself was influenced by Garvey.
Preached violent revolution, urging African Americans to reject any means for change. He left the NOI in 1964 due to disagreements and concerns about Elijah Muhammad’s genuine belief in Islamic moral principles. After splitting form the NOI, Malcolm X became less committed to violence and more to the force of purely spiritual values.
