oct 29, 1956 - The Suez Crisi or The Anglo-French-Israeli Invasion of Egypt, also called the Secon-Arab-Israeli war or the Tripartite Aggression.

Description:

"Ill-conceived, badly timed, and incompetently manages, the invasion almost broke up the NATO alliance….Eisenhower was furious…a resurgent European colonialism. “How could we possibly support Britain and France…if in doing so we lose the whole Arab world?” The president ordered the withdrawal from the canal, as well as the Israeli evacuation of the Sinai, or the US would apply severe economic sanctions. (Gaddis 2006, p. 127)

"The real winner was Nasser, who kept the canal, humiliated the colonists, and balanced Cold War superpowers against one another, while securing his position as the undisputed leader of the Arab nationalism." (Gaddis 2006, p. 128).

"The very compulsiveness with which the Soviet Union and the US sought to bring such states within their orbits would up giving those states the means of escape. Autonomy, in what might have seemed to be inhospitable circumstances, was becoming attainable." (Gaddis 2006, p. 128).
