2. His first famous work, Prélude à L’après-midi d’un faune, was based on a poem by Mallarmé.
3. His only opera, Pelléas et Mélisande, was based on a drama by Maeterlinck, the leader
of the Symbolist movement after Mallarmé.
4. Debussy threw out Wagner’s harmonic glue, allowing more options for harmonic movement.
