This was significant in the history of Rome because Odoacer becomes the first "barbarian" Emperor of Rome when he overthrew all of the Roman emperors in the west. This was also significant because even though Rome was being attack from the outside it was also crumbling from the inside from the severe financial crisis. Last of all the Roman military was unable to recruit enough soldiers form the citizens making the once respectful army into a vunreble military.
