On August 2 1990 Iraqi forces crossed into Kuwait in the early morning. The Kuwaiti military was not at all prepared despite the fact that Iraq had been placing forces near the border for some time. The Emir of Kuwait fled to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait was annexed by Iraq in 2 days.Added to timeline:
