may 24, 476 - Split between Western Europe and Byzantine Empire
Description:
After the fall of the Roman Empire two major civilizations developed: Western Europe and the Byzantine Empire. Both developed differently and had their own unique characteristics. For example, Western Europe was Roman Catholic and the Byzantine Empire was Eastern Orthodox. This split was important because it caused the two to develop separately and uniquely, also it caused conflict between the two, especially over religious issues.
