may 26, 800 BC - Rise of Greek City States
Description:
Civilization in Greece was based on strong, independent city states instead of a single government. This worked well for Greece because there were many mountains and natural barriers that divided it. Two of the main city states were Athens and Sparta. The city states were important because they shaped the government of the area as well as increased trade between them.
