apr 27, 287 - b. Saint Catherine of Alexandria
Description:
St. Catherine of Alexandria was born in Alexandria, Egypt which was a thriving community of faith and scholarship.
As a teenager, she had a vision of the nativity and converted to Christianity. She was so devout that when Emperor Maxentius began his persecutions she denounced him.
Instead of putting her to death Maxentius called upon her to debate various scholars. Supposedly, the audience was so moved that many converted immediately.
She was beheaded for refusing to denounce her faith.
