Ashoka was the Grandson of Chandragupta, the founder of the Maurya dynasty. Ashoka gained control of all of India except the Southern tip through brutal and bloody conquests. Ashoka eventually converted to Buddhism and spread the religion throughout India. Ashoka is especially important because he not only spread Buddhism throughout India but also sent missionaries to other parts to the world to help spread and grow the religion.
