may 4, 1910 - Naval Service Bill passed

Description:

The Naval Service Bill was passed by Parliament. Canada didn’t have their own navy and had to rely on the British Royal Navy. The Act would have them build their own small navy for defense. They would purchase a few smaller ships instead of one large one because the large ship could only operate on one of the main coasts. Six coastal defence destroyers would be purchased as well. The naval force would be able to protect Canada’s shores and support the Royal Navy if needed.
