Description:

The Book of Courtier by Baldassare Castiglione, was written in 1508 and published in 1528 just before his death. It is an example of Renaissance dialogue. It is a collection of fictional conversations between the courtiers, or the “court-goers” of the Duke of Urbino. The book has been described as having a “cool mind, a good voice (with beautiful, elegant and brave words), along with proper bearing and gestures”. It was very important to Castiglione that the book have accurate information regarding classics and fine arts, even though the book was fiction in its entirety. It was one of the most widely-received books during the 16th century, as the English translation had a major impact on certain individuals in Europe.
