Description:
In march of 1857, the U.S. Supreme court ruled that blacks were not and could not be citizens of the united states. Scott attempted to sue missouri courts, claiming that his residence on free territory made him a free man. He lost, and not only did they rule that Blacks could not be citizens, but that they could not serve in federal court.
