jan 19, 1405 - Pizan, The City of the Ladies

Description:

The City of the Ladies, originally written in vernacular French, is perhaps Christine de Pizan’s most famous literary work. The main theme of the book is gender equality; as she is responding to comments about men being superior to women. Christine de Pizan uses women as the form of power in The City of Ladies. This book was very important because it emphasized the need for gender equality during this time period, and showed just how privileged men were to women. It was the first book of its kind in Western literature.
