aug 14, 1550 - Vasari, Lives of the Artists

Description:

Giorgio Vasari, an avid admirer of Italy’s artists during the Renaissance, wrote a book called The Lives of the Artists. In this book, he expressed his appreciation, and highlighted the talent of great artists such as Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci. The most famous part of this book is Vasari’s ode to Michelangelo, in which he says he was “very inclined to the labors of art”, and he had an “...imagination of such a kind; so perfect…”. These biographies of quattrocento artists has long been considered one of the most important documents from this time. The Lives of Artists was important because of the fact that it highlighted these Renaissance artists; without it, our knowledge of them would be lessen greatly.
