Sylvia's response: "I'l never speak to God again!" She'd been praying nightly. The following day, she forces her mother to sign a paper promising she will never marry again. Her mother will choose not to grieve in front of her children, which Sylvia will see as indifference. She also does not let them attend his funeral.
