mar 16, 1926 - First Liquid Fuel Rocket

Description:

A college professor and scientist, Robert H. Goddard built and flew the first rocket with liquid fuel. He was also a visionary, being the first to realize the possibilities of spaceflight. As well, he proved that a rocket also works in a vacuum without air to push against, clearing the path to rockets in space. Among other things, he also pioneered the use of gyroscopes in rockets, as well as vanes to control direction. While the dedication of this modest man went unrecognized for the most part until the Space Age, he is now rightly regarded as the "Father of Modern Rocketry", with a Samuel P. Langley Gold Medal to his name, awarded by the 86 Congress shortly after his death.
