Colonists in Boston were harassing the British guards resulting in the British opening fire and killing five, including an African American. At their trial, the guards were acquitted.
Created an outrage among the colonists who were angered that the British could brutally kill their people and get away with it. Inspired many to make commentaries, including Paul Revere's famous political cartoon.
