apr 1, 1816 - Byron leaves the UK forever
Description:
The scandal of his separation from his wife, rumours of an affair with his half-sister, and ever-increasing debt, had forced him to leave England, never to return, in April.
Byron rented the Villa Diodati in Switzerland during this time. There he met and befriended Percy Shelley and Mary Shelley. He had already known Claire Clairmont, with whom he had had an affair in London. He became the father of Clairmont's daughter, Allegra.
