Emperor Constantine I gathered the council of Nicea in what is now Iznik, Turkey. They sought to fix the rift caused by the idea of Arianism which argued that Christ was not a divine being, but a created one. The creed also looked to decree the appropriate ways to consecrate bishops and establish laws concerning the lending of money among the clergy.Added to timeline:
