The Spirit of Laws was written by Baron de Montesquieu and published in 1748. It was a formally written piece on political theory and in this, he pioneered work in comparative law. Today it is regarded as one of the most important political science books in history. It was also a major influence on the development of democratic institutions throughout Europe especially during and after the French Revolution. Within the actual text, The Spirit of the laws Montesquieu aimed to denounce the abuse inflicted upon France by the French Monarchical system and encouraged more liberal and equitable monarchical government especially for France.
