This speech was made on August 9, 1588 in Essex in preparation for repelling the expected invasion by the Spaniard Armada. Queen Elizabeth I was queen of England and Ireland also known as the Virgin Queen. She is known as one the the most Enlightened rulers of her time. This speech was given in a time of sorry for England and at the time, the Protestant Elizabeth was up against Spain, a great Catholic nation. The speech was desired to encourage the English people in defending her as well as the country through trials such as war. During the speech she tries to compare herself to the people and makes herself seem as though she is one of the people.
