Elise's affinity comes to her in a vision of her tribe being attacked by an Upyr hunting party. Rather than warn them, she packs up at dawn and leaves, returning that night to find everyone dead. She allows herself to be captured by the Upyr and demands to be brought to the Bone King.Bone King Gabriel Albescu is fascinated with Elise's affinity, and offers her a position at his side for protection. Elise accepts.
