jul 6, 1492 - Columbian Exchange

Description:

The exchange of people, plants, animals, technology, and disease between Afro-eurasia and the Americas. Natives did not have domesticated animals or as advanced technology as Europeans. Europeans brought over domesticated animals and crops to grow in the New World and this made a very large impact on existing ecosystems. Invasive species began dominating ecosystems and diseases Europeans were immune to decimated the indigenous people. Crops from the New World were better than crops from the Old World in that they could feed more people per acre of harvest. This allowed for population growth in Europe and other areas of the Old World.
