Description:

The fundamental main reason was to change the structure of the foreign trade imposed by the Canton System which has been going on since 1760. On the article V treaty ports opened for foreign trade, for example Nipo, Fuzhou, Shanghai, Xiamen which were all allowed to trade with anyone they wished. Britain also got the rights to trade with anyone if wished.
