oct 1, 1958 - Bomarc Missile Crisis

Description:

The Bomarc Missile was the source of heated debate in Canada. The Canadian Government agreed with the US as a part of NORAD to set up two squadrons of anti-aircraft Bomarc Missiles. These missiles would have been an effective replacement for the previously scrapped Avro Arrow. However, the Canadian Government did not make it clear Bomarc Missiles were to be outfitted with nuclear warheads. This sparked a number of anti-nuclear protests throughout Canada.
