jul 8, 1524 - Death of Shah Ismail
Description:
The seventh descendant of Safi al-Din. Becomes the first Shah of the Safavid Dynasty, which is now fully Twelver Shi'i in belief. Was seen as infallible by his followers -- called murshid-i kamil -- or "perfect leader", as well as Sahib Qiran. Claims to be both the reincarnation of Ali as well as God, which are obviously highly heretical and extreme. Ghulat/Ghuluww. Though heretical, his Turkic followers don't care due to their limited Islamic knowledge and therefore don't resist his rule or claims, as they follow him for the charisma. Takes over all of Iran by 1510, and holds Baghdad for a hot second.
