Description:

-In the spring of 1889 hundreds of thousands of pro-democracy demonstrators occupied Tiananmen Square, beijing's Central Gathering Place.
- The water to end the corruption in the ruling party and have a greater say in the government and live in better conditions in the universities.
thousands of students staged a hunger strike and ignored government orders for them to leave.
-finally Chinese leaders took actions. In early June they took tanks and armed troops and began marching Tiananmen Squares
- they shot at people they saw on the streets. -Hundreds of protesters were killed and thousands wounded. This incident became known as the Tiananmen Square massacre.
-the Chinese government's action stunned the West. Most western Nations and international Aid agencies stopped or cut back on loans to China. Tourists would not visit. China needed new sources of income to replace the money from other countries.
