The new direction encouraged many Chinese to speak out against the Chinese government. Many people wanted China to turn into a Democracy, and not a single party rule
Protesters occupied Tiananmen Square (Gathering place in Beijing) and refused to leave even after being told so by the Chinese government
In June soldiers and Tanks rolled into the Square and began shooting at people who were present at the time
This response to the Protest stunned the west and the immediately began holding back exports that China depended on Economically
