12h 27min, may 11, 1966 y - The Cultral Revolution

Description:

The failure of the Great Leap Forward, left Mao’s leadership in question, promoting Mao to fight back with the Cultural Revolution, an intense attempt at social change in 1966.
The Revolution was aimed to exterminate China’s old traditions, habitats, and thoughts, and replace them with a new socialist culture.
Mao appointed the Red Guards, a group of students, to lead the Revolution, in which ruined ancient works of art, burned books, and destroyed anything and everything from the “old way”. In addition, Red Guards beat, tortured or even killed those who went against Mao’s teachings and ideas.
The Cultural Revolution and inhumane treatment towards individuals had everlasting effects, both agriculturally and industrially. The chaos leads Mao to take complete control, and brake up the Red Guards.
