The government wanted the people to make their own iron and steel in their own small furnaces stored in their backyards.
Created large human communities
People who were single lived in dormitories and had to eat in the mess hall.
Children stayed in nurseries while their parents were working in the fields all day.
People were paid depending on their job, region, skill, age, and gender, all of these together are called “work points”
The Great Leap forward turned out to be a failure because industrial output decreased and there were constant food shortages which also led to the death of over 20 million.
The government decided to abandon the program in the early 1960s.
