aug 31, 1953 - The Five-Year Plan
Description:
The Five-Year Plan
After the war, the Communists wanted China to become a modern, industrialized nation. In 1953, they began the Five-Year Plan to help grow their economy
They wanted to reform the land and to build up China’s industry
Landlords were forced to give their land to peasants. Millions were killed during this change. Eventually, the peasants made new farms and China’s economy grew.
Despite the many lives lost, the Five-Year Plan was generally seen as a success, because both the agricultural and industrial output of China increased.
