dec 17, 1938 - Nuclear fission
Description:
Otto Hahn and his coworkers, Meitner and Fritz Strassmann continued the research started by Enrico Fermi in bombarding uranium with neutrons. When they were looking elements in a sample of uranium that had been irradiated with neutrons they found traces of the element barium. This experiment confirmed that some elements were fissionable and they even created a new element, With their discovery, it changed a science work and with that knowledge, we have created nuclear power. It also helped us understand how the nucleus worked and how a atom could be unstable enough to fission.
