jul 29, 1609 - Champlain kills two
Iroquois chieftans
while helping his
new native allies
Description:
After deciding to attempt a friendship with the Huron and Montagnais, he accompanied a number of the aforementioned southwards to aid in their war with the Iroquois. After two weeks and no Iroquois sightings, all but two of his men returned to Quebec City. When Champlain, his two soldiers, and sixty native allies encountered an Iroquois war party, he killed two chieftans with a single shot from his arquebus, routing the remaining Iroquois. This event greatly coloured Franco-Iroquois relations for the rest of the century.
