jan 22, 1969 - ARPA awards contract to develop IMP
Description:
ARPA awards contract to the Bolt, Baranek, and Knewman Corporation to develop a Interface Message Processor (IMP), which breaks data streams into "packets" of info, allowing data from more than one source to be transmitted over the same transmission line. This made the internet possible and is what causes the internet to be known as a "packet-switching" network.
