Description:

Hardline communist party leaders and military officers attempted a coup to take control as they wanted the USSR to stay under their harsh communist control. They held Gorbachev prisoner in the Crimea while they sent tanks into the streets of Moscow - trying to take control the old communist way, with violence.
People in Moscow opposed this coup and the Russian president, Yeltsin, lead the opposition. The coup collapsed.
