mar 15, 1990 - Collapse of Communism in E. Europe

Description:

By March 1990, many former Soviet controlled countries had held democratic elections and overthrowing communist power including: Hungary, Poland, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria and Lativa.
There were some attempts to maintain control by Gorbachev such as sending troops in in Latvia and Azerbaijan but the people mainly managed to keep control.

This shows how despite the years of Soviet control, the Soviets had failed to create any GENUINE IDEOLOGICAL COMMITMENT. As soon as Gorbachev had introduced policies that would allow for more freedom of speech, the people took the oppourtunity to rise up for what they wanted.
