jan 1, 100 BC - 1 Maccabees
Description:
The work was composed by an educated Jew, versed in scripture and Temple liturgy, who had access to and could translate Hebrew, Greek, and Latin documents and archival materials.
Composed around 100 BCE, the book covers Judean history from the time of Alexander the Great (d. 323 BCE) to the high priesthood of John Hyrcanus (r. 134-104 BCE). The book is thus dated to the end of Hyrcanus's reign, or shortly thereafter.
A Greek translation of the work appeared around the turn of the era; Josephus used it as a source in his Antiquities (12.242-13.212)
