“The last battle of the war came at Chapultepec Hill in Mexico City. For 14 hours, the gringos pounded away with their big guns while a few soldiers and teenage cadets tried to defend the hill. Finally, six cadets jumped to their death rather than surrender. One or two wrapped themselves in the flag of Mexico, so that it would not fall into enemy hands. The war was over; the U.S. invaders had won” (pg35)

Los Ninos Heroes de Chapultepec: Juan Escutia, Fernando Montes de Oca, Francisco Marquez, Juan de la Barrera, Agustin Melgar, Vicente Suarez-- six Mexican teenage military cadets who died defending Mexico City’s Chapultepec Castle from invading U.S. forces.
