In 313 CE, persecution against Christianity was ended. This was done by the emperor Constantine. Later that century, Christianity became the main and official state religion of the Empire. Christianity was spread drastically due to this policy. The Roan state undermines its religious traditions when approving Christianity. The credibility and authority of the emperor was weakened as the Romans considered there emperor a god. This contrasted with the Christian beleif in monotheism.
