Description:
The Northern wing of the Democratic party was taken up by Martin Van Buren with John C. Calhoun against him. An additional nomination of a similar Andrew Jackson was James K Polk. Lastly Henry Clay being the Whig nominee. James K. Polk had one the election and the democrats viewed it is a mandate to add Texas to the Union.
