Description:

Northerners who did not agree with having slavery in the territory started the Free-Soil Party. The party's slogan was “free soil, free labor, free men”. The party’s attempt in preventing the extension of slavery was not the only thing they advoated for, they also pushed for free homesteads and internal improvements.
