Description:

The gladiatorial games started in Rome over 300 years before the Colosseum was built. The Colosseum did not exist during the lives of many of the most famous Romans such as the dictator Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Neither had the Colosseum been built during the reigns of emperors such as Augustus, Tiberius, Nero, Caligula or Claudius.
