Description:

Dorothea Dix helped publicize the horrible treatment of mentally ill people that are convicted criminals. Thomas Gallaudet opened a school for the deaf and Dr. Samuel Gridley Howe started a school for the blind. For Prisons Pennsylvania took the lead for prison reform, building new prisons called penitentiaries.
