oct 27, 1795 - The Pinckney Treaty
Description:
The Pinckney Treaty, named after the U.S. minister to Spain Thomas Pinckney, dealt with quite beneficial negotiations between the U.S. and Spain which included Spain opening up the lower Mississippi river and New Orleans to American trade as well as reevaluating the northern border of the Spanish colony at the time, Florida. This is important because it showed one of the few rare cases of a European power actually going out to negotiate with the newly developed nation, even if it was partly for reasons of increasing their own power against another powerful European country (Britain).
