jul 1, 1569 - Union of Lublin

Description:

Unia Lubelska

Strengthening of the ties between Poland and Lithuania, who become a united Commonwealth state of Poland-Lithuania (Rzeczpospolita Obojga Narodów.

Reasons:
- Lithuania was threatened by Russian aggression
- Sigismund II August didn't have a male heir or brother, so there was a risk of the personal union between Poland and Lithuania coming to an end.

Wealthy Lithuanian nobles were against the move. The king forced them to submit by annexing parts of Lithuania directly into Poland.

Many previously Lithuanian lands were incorporated into Poland.

After Sigismund II August's death, Poland-Lithuania was supposed to start electing their king.
