Description:

This party emerged in 1855, however, it was most likely being formed before this, and would probably not grow to its full influence for many more years. An anti-catholic political began to form in larger cities, particularly in Boston. They were extremely prejudiced against the Irish American immigrants. They did everything they could to stop the advancement of the Irish Americans in all facets. The local Protestants did not appreciate the new influx of Irish Catholics.
