dec 3, 1812 - Election of 1812

Description:

The presidential Election of 1812 involved a split of sentiment towards the war with Great Britain the U.S was currently involved in. The Democratic-Republican strength in the South and West significantly overcame Federalist and anti-war Democratic-Republican opposition to war in the North. The pro-war faction in the South and West renominated James Madison, while the Democratic-Republicans and Federalists supported De Witt Clinton of New York. Clinton did well in New England and New York, but Madison was victorious and became reelected as U.S president.
