According to multiple writers such as Tacticus, this might have been an accident as well but resulting in the losses to be tainted upon the already indescribable notoriety of Nero. The aftermath of the fire lead to Nero's putative targeting of the Christians, and burned some of them at the stakes, accusing that the Christians were extremists and saboteurs.
